David James Pugh

David James Pugh was born to Darvie and Grace Pugh on September 23, 1949 in Honolulu, Hawaii. As a resident of Charlestown, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on February 2, 1967 and began active duty the same day. In the Marines, he served as a Lance Corporal with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. On March 15, 1969, while fighting in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam, Lance Corporal Pugh was shot and wounded by enemy small arms fire during a search and clear mission. He later died due to his wounds. For his ultimate sacrifice and the heroism he displayed in service to our country Pugh was awarded the Purple Heart. David was survived by his parents, residents of Charlestown. He is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, MA. Lance Corporal Pugh’s name can be found inscribed on Panel 29W, Row 48 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
