WILLIAM J. MCNAMARA

William James McNamara United States Army 3 April, 1949 – 7 March, 1969 William James McNamara was born on April 3, 1949 in Boston. He lived in Charlestown and enlisted in the Army on April 23, 1968. He began active duty that very day. McNamara served as a Specialist 4 (SP4) with Company D, 1st Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 5th Infantry Division. While serving in the Quang Tri Province of Vietnam on March 7, 1969, SP4 McNamara was killed in action. William was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William McNamara, residents of Charlestown. SP4 McNamara is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, MA. His name is memorialized on Panel 30W, Row 68 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
