John Joseph Maheigan United States Army 20 August, 1925 – 08 January, 1945 John Joseph Maheigan was born on August 20, 1925 in South Boston. A resident of Charlestown, Maheigan was inducted into the Army on November 4, 1943 and began active duty later that month on November 26, 1943. He served in the 345th Infantry Regiment, 87th Infantry Division as a Private First Class (PFC). On January 5, 1945, PFC Maheigan was critically wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and died three days later. Maheigan was awarded the Purple Heart for the heroism he displayed in his service to our country. He is buried overseas in the Luxembourg American Cemetery in Luxembourg City. John was survived by his parents John and Mary Maheigan, residents of Charlestown.
