ENS. JOHN J. JR. DOHERTY

United Stated Navy 20 February 1919 – 1 February 1942 John J. Doherty, Jr. was born in Boston, MA on February 20, 1919. He attended Charlestown High School and then furthered his education attending Boston University, graduating in 1939. He showed his devotion for our country when he joined the U.S. Navy in 1940. Doherty proudly defended our country as an Aviator until he was killed in action over The Marshall Islands in The Pacific Ocean on February 1, 1942. Doherty was awarded, The Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and the Purple Heart. He also had an Evarts class Destroyer named in his honor, The USS Doherty; Doherty was survived by his Mother, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Doherty of Charlestown, MA.
