Boat Mooring Permit

Per Massachusetts General Law (City of Boston Code, Chapter 16 Section 48), boats are not allowed to moor or dock in Boston waters without first obtaining a permit from the City. This permit must be displayed on the port side of the boat, near the transom.

Apply Via Mail
  1. Fill out the 2014 Boat Mooring Permit Application(all sections must be completed).

  2. Submit the application and associated permit fee (along with proof of boat excise tax payment to the City of Boston's Collector of Taxes.)

  3. Include a copy of Vessel Registration or Certificate of Documentation.

  4. If vessel was purchased after July 1, 2013, a copy of the bill of sale must be included.

  5. If you owned the vessel prior to July 1, 2013, you will be issued a Boat Excise Tax Bill which much be paid prior to approval of a new boat mooring permit.
