The Boston Public Library's mission is to preserve and provide access to the historical record of our society, and to serve the cultural, educational, and informational needs of the City and the Commonwealth.
BPL Website Key Tool for Users
The Boston Public Library website continues to grow in popularity with its users. Visits to www.bpl.org at the end of the third quarter in FY12 exceeded by nearly 570,000 the total amount of website visits the library received in all of FY09.
Strong Circulation Continues
The Boston Public Library saw a very high rate of lending print books, audiobooks, e-books, CDs, and DVDs by the end of FY12 Quarter 3. In fact, the year-to-date circulation at the end of Q3 is equivalent to the entire year’s circulation in FY07.
New Library Card Sign-ups Below Goal
Although the number of Boston residents newly signing up for library cards in FY12 Q3 is higher than it was in FY11 Q3, the Boston Public Library is still 942 sign-ups off the goal pace this quarter.
